SUHRC Receives Seven Dialysis Machines, Expanding Renal Care Capacity to 32 Machines

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], November 4: Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre (SUHRC), in association with Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW), has received seven dialysis machines, donated by Rotary Chennai Legends, Rotary Madras and Hodek Ltd. The equipment was formally handed over at the hospital’s Dialysis Centre at the Lavale campus of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, marking a significant step towards strengthening access to essential renal care.

With the addition of these seven machines, SUHRC’s dialysis infrastructure has expanded to 32 machines, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to support patients requiring regular dialysis. The donation reinforces the institution’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to specialised, life-sustaining treatment.

Strengthening Access to Essential Renal Care

Dialysis is a critical, recurring treatment for individuals with kidney failure, making the availability of reliable and accessible services essential for continuity of care. SUHRC’s Dialysis Centre operates round the clock, seven days a week, conducting approximately 70–90 dialysis sessions daily and around 2,000 sessions every month.

The additional machines are expected to strengthen service capacity, improve the availability of dialysis slots and enable the hospital to accommodate more patients requiring ongoing treatment. The expansion represents an important investment in patient care, helping reinforce the infrastructure needed to meet the continuing demand for renal healthcare services.

A Collaborative Effort Towards Better Healthcare

The handover ceremony was attended by PRID Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi of Rotary International; Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, Founder and President of Symbiosis; and Air Commodore Dr. V. K. Sashindran (Retd.), Dean of Symbiosis Medical College for Women and Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Air Commodore Dr. V. K. Sashindran (Retd.), followed by addresses from Rotary representatives on the project’s vision, objectives and future direction. PRID Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi subsequently addressed the gathering, followed by Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, who presided over the programme.

The contribution by Rotary Chennai Legends, Rotary Madras and Hodek Ltd. exemplifies the role of collaborative partnerships in strengthening essential healthcare services. By bringing together philanthropic commitment, corporate support and institutional healthcare expertise, the initiative contributes to expanding critical medical infrastructure and supporting the needs of patients requiring long-term care.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Abhijit Chavan, Consultant Nephrologist at SUHRC. The visiting dignitaries also visited the Rotary Peace Pole on the Symbiosis campus, followed by lunch at Sandipani.

The initiative underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between healthcare institutions, philanthropic organisations and corporate partners in strengthening healthcare delivery and advancing access to essential medical services.
